The vision of Morten Veland
Sirenia is a Norwegian gothic and symphonic metal band from Stavanger. The project was founded in January 2001. At its core stands Morten Veland. He is the band’s guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and producer. Veland is also known as a former member of Tristania.
After leaving that band, he created Sirenia as a fully author-driven project. From the beginning, the artistic vision was clear. The focus was on dark, melancholic and atmospheric metal. Emotion and mood were always central elements of the sound.
The band’s musical identity is built on contrast. Heavy guitars are combined with rich orchestration. Choirs and female vocals interact with harsher male parts. Electronic elements appear occasionally. The original project name was Masters of Sirenia. It was inspired by sirens from Greek mythology.
