Ritual music inspired by the tundra
Nytt Land creates music inspired by shamanism, ancient Nordic texts and the traditions of Siberian cultures. Their sound combines throat singing, ancient instruments and ambient sounds from nature.
This unique combination creates a ritual-like atmosphere. Listeners are transported into a sonic landscape inspired by the tundra, forests and mythological worlds of the North.
Zagreb audiences have already experienced this distinctive live atmosphere, which makes the band’s return to Močvara highly anticipated.
The album “Aba Khan”
The latest album “Aba Khan” expands Nytt Land’s exploration of mythological and shamanic themes. The record continues the band’s signature sound through ritual rhythms, throat singing and traditional instruments.
Songs from the album will form an important part of the Zagreb performance, together with selected tracks from the band’s earlier releases.

Hangtime also organizes a Nytt Land concert on May 21 at Zappa Barka in Belgrade, giving regional audiences two opportunities to experience this unique musical ceremony.
Nytt Land was formed in 2013 in the town of Kalachinsk in the Omsk region of Siberia, more than 4,700 kilometers away from Zagreb. The project was founded by the married couple Natalia and Anatoly Pakhalenko, who quickly created a distinctive musical world inspired by shamanism, Nordic mythology and the harsh landscapes of Siberia.
Their music blends dark neopagan atmosphere, throat singing and traditional instruments. This unique combination gives Nytt Land a recognizable sound and turns their concerts into an experience often described as a ritual or ceremonial performance.
The Sound of the Tundra and Ancient Instruments
One of the defining elements of Nytt Land’s sound is the use of handcrafted traditional instruments. Among them are the kantele and talharpa, instruments rooted in Nordic and Baltic musical traditions.
The band also incorporates natural ambient sounds into their music. Recordings of ravens, wind and forest environments appear throughout their compositions. These elements create an immersive sonic landscape that transports listeners deep into the Siberian wilderness. Because of this atmosphere, some describe their music as a “hallucinogenic walk through the tundra.”
Nordic Mythology and the Poetic Edda
The lyrical themes of Nytt Land are often inspired by Nordic mythology. In particular, they draw from the Poetic Edda, a collection of 38 poems that represents one of the most important sources of Norse mythological tradition.
Through these texts, the band builds a symbolic world of ancient stories, gods and mythological landscapes. This combination of music, mythology and ritual aesthetics makes their artistic expression unique within the contemporary folk and dark ambient scene.
New Albums and Creative Momentum
In recent years Nytt Land has remained very active in the studio. After releasing the album “Torem”, which they also presented to audiences in Zagreb, the band continued their creative output with new material.
The album “Songs of the Shaman” was released in 2025, followed by their latest record “Aba Khan.” Both releases expand the band’s sonic world and further explore themes rooted in shamanic traditions and ancient cultures.
This continuous stream of new music shows that Nytt Land is currently in a strong creative and touring phase.
Nytt Land Live
Nytt Land’s live performances are often described as ritual experiences. Throat singing, ancient instruments and a dark atmospheric stage presence create the feeling of a ceremonial gathering.
This powerful combination makes their concerts stand apart from typical live shows and leaves a lasting impression on audiences across Europe.
