Dark melodies, heavy riffs and gothic atmosphere will once again fill Zappa Barka. This time, Moonspell will be joined by Iotunn and TodoMal.
Since the early 1990s, Moonspell has built one of the most distinctive careers in European gothic metal. Their music has never remained within the boundaries of a single genre.
Early black metal roots gradually merged with gothic metal, doom and dark atmospheric elements. At the centre of it all remains Fernando Ribeiro’s unmistakable voice.
Over more than three decades, the band has also built a strong connection with Serbian audiences. Their previous shows have shown just how special that relationship has become.
The „God is a Vampire” Tour offers another chance to experience Moonspell in a full headline setting.
Danish-Faroese band Iotunn will join them as special guests. The band has attracted growing attention from metal audiences in recent years.
Their music combines progressive and melodic metal with death metal and atmospheric elements. The result is a sound that can be massive, heavy and highly melodic at the same time.
Spanish doom band TodoMal will open the evening. Their music is built around heavy riffs, dark atmospheres and an eclectic approach to doom metal.
Three bands will bring three different visions of the darker side of metal. Doom, progressive elements and Moonspell’s signature gothic sound will connect the entire evening.

Moonspell are a Portuguese metal band formed in 1992 in the Lisbon area. Emerging from the band Morbid God, they have grown over more than three decades into one of the most recognizable names in European gothic and dark metal.
From the very beginning, their music has combined the heaviness of extreme metal with dark atmospheres, melancholy and drama. Throughout different periods of their career, they have explored gothic, black and dark metal while maintaining their own distinctive identity.
The deep vocals of Fernando Ribeiro, dense guitars and atmospheric keyboards have become key elements of their sound.
Their first major step came with the release of “Under the Moonspell” in 1994. The mini-album combined the intensity of black metal with medieval atmospheres and Portuguese musical influences.
The response from the international underground scene opened the door to a deal with Century Media. Even at this early stage, it was clear that Moonspell had no intention of following established metal formulas.
Their real breakthrough came just one year later.
Their debut album “Wolfheart” was released in 1995 and laid the foundations for Moonspell’s cult status.
Songs such as “Alma Mater”, “Vampiria” and “Wolfshade (A Werewolf Masquerade)” became essential parts of their repertoire. The album defined the combination of aggression, melody, atmosphere and dark romanticism that would characterize much of their career.
The success of Wolfheart took them from the Portuguese underground to European tours. Moonspell began building an international audience that would follow them for decades.
One year later came “Irreligious”, an album that further expanded the band’s sound and international reach.
Gothic elements became more prominent, but their metal foundations remained intact. “Opium” became one of their best-known songs, while the album established Moonspell as one of the key names in European gothic metal.
Wolfheart and Irreligious remain two cornerstone albums of their career. In the years that followed, the band continued to evolve and explore different sides of their musical identity.
Throughout their career, Moonspell have never remained tied to a single period or sound.
Albums such as “Sin/Pecado”, “The Butterfly Effect”, “The Antidote”, “Memorial”, “Night Eternal”, “Alpha Noir”, “Extinct”, “1755” and “Hermitage” have revealed different sides of the band.
At times, gothic and dark metal came to the forefront. At others, they returned to their more extreme roots or embraced a more atmospheric and experimental approach.
It is precisely this ability to evolve that has allowed them to remain relevant for more than three decades without abandoning their own identity.
Live performances have been one of the most important parts of Moonspell’s identity since their early years.
Their shows combine theatricality, dark atmosphere and metal energy. Fernando Ribeiro has also become one of the most recognizable frontmen on the European gothic metal scene.
More than three decades after their formation, the band continues to perform around the world. Their audience now spans several generations of gothic, dark and extreme metal fans.
A new chapter arrived with “Far From God”, released on July 3, 2026, via Napalm Records. The album emerged after five years of creative exploration and is described by the band as a return to their own identity.
Dark romanticism, drama and heaviness once again take centre stage. Producer Jaime Gomez Arellano, known for his work with Paradise Lost, Sólstafir and Ghost, helped connect the atmosphere of the band’s classic era with contemporary production.
The title track “Far From God” explores a tragic vampire love story. “Cross Your Heart” deals with lives lost, while “The Great Wolf in the Sky” explores themes of loss, memory and devotion.
Ribeiro’s deep vocals, layered keyboards and dense guitars are once again at the heart of the sound. Napalm Records describes the album as Moonspell’s “Irreligious” for the 21st century.

TodoMal are a Spanish metal band formed in 2020. The project was founded by Christopher B. Wildman and Javier Fernández, two experienced multi-instrumentalists from the Spanish underground scene.
Their music is rooted in traditional doom metal but reaches far beyond its usual boundaries. Heavy, slow riffs are combined with the vastness of space rock, church music, classic hard rock and cinematic atmospheres.
The result is a sound that can feel monumental, melancholic and hypnotic at the same time.
Their debut album “Ultracrepidarian” was released in 2021.
TodoMal established the foundations of their distinctive sound with their very first release. Doom metal was layered with psychedelic and atmospheric elements, while lengthy compositions provided enough space to gradually build tension.
The desolate landscapes of rural Spain served as an important source of inspiration. A sense of space, solitude and isolation became one of the recurring themes throughout their work.
Their second album “A Greater Good” followed in 2023.
The band developed a denser and more complex sound on the album. Traditional doom remained at its core, but atmospheric, progressive and psychedelic elements were given even more room.
The album attracted the attention of specialist metal media and further expanded TodoMal’s audience beyond the Spanish underground scene.
Their third album “Graveyards of Joy” was released in July via Season of Mist.
On the album, TodoMal continue to explore themes of melancholy, loss, solitude and desolate spaces. Heavy doom riffs meet expansive atmospheric passages, keyboards and an almost cinematic sense of space.
The album continues the ideas explored on their previous releases while developing them into an even broader and more ambitious sonic world.
TodoMal began as a creative partnership between Christopher B. Wildman and Javier Fernández, but expanded into a five-piece line-up for live performances.
Additional guitar, drums, keyboards and vocals allow the band to bring their layered studio music to the stage without losing its heaviness or atmosphere.
This expanded format gives their songs additional dynamics and intensity in a live setting.
TodoMal have performed at festivals including Be Prog! My Friend, Under the Doom and Frantic Fest, building a reputation beyond their native Spanish scene.
They have shared stages with artists such as Candlemass, My Dying Bride and Dødheimsgard, which gives a good indication of the musical territory they inhabit.
From traditional doom and psychedelia to the progressive and more extreme edges of metal, TodoMal belong to a new generation of bands that use the classic heaviness of the genre as a starting point rather than a destination.

Iotunn are a Danish-Faroese metal band from Copenhagen who have been active under this name since 2015. The creative core of the band consists of brothers and guitarists Jesper and Jens Nicolai Gräs.
Their musical roots go back to 1970s rock, but over the years Iotunn have developed a much broader and more ambitious sound. Their music brings together progressive metal, melodic death metal and vast atmospheric passages.
Guitar harmonies, lengthy compositions and a sense of vastness have become an important part of their identity.
An important step in the band’s development was the arrival of Faroese singer Jón Aldará, also known for his work with Hamferð.
His voice is one of the elements that immediately sets Iotunn apart. Aldará moves between powerful clean singing and extreme vocals, often within the same song.
This range perfectly complements music that constantly shifts between melodic, atmospheric and intensely heavy passages.
The first major release under the Iotunn name was the EP “The Wizard Falls”, released in 2016.
Even at this early stage, the band showed an interest in progressive song structures, powerful guitar melodies and heavy metal foundations.
The following years brought further development of both their sound and line-up. The result of this process was their first full-length album and an international breakthrough.
The debut album “Access All Worlds” was released in 2021 via Metal Blade Records.
The album presented Iotunn in a far more ambitious form. Progressive metal and melodic death metal took on an almost cosmic atmosphere, while the lengthy compositions allowed the band to gradually build their own musical worlds.
Access All Worlds attracted the attention of international metal audiences and critics, establishing Iotunn as one of the more exciting new names on the European progressive metal scene.
The second album “Kinship” was released in 2024. Across eight tracks, the band further expanded on the ideas introduced on their debut.
At the heart of the album are human nature, relationships and the consequences of the choices we make. Musically, monumental atmospheric passages alternate with melodic guitars, progressive structures and extreme metal.
Rather than simply repeating the formula of their first album, Iotunn used Kinship to expand their musical universe even further.
Iotunn’s music takes on a particular power in a live setting. Their layered studio compositions gain additional weight on stage, while the combination of guitar harmonies and Aldará’s vocal range creates a powerful contrast between melody and extremity.
The band’s live side is documented on the “Waves over Copenhell” release from 2026, recorded during their performance at the renowned Danish festival Copenhell.
Iotunn are a band whose reputation has continued to grow in recent years. They are certainly worth experiencing live to understand why more and more people are talking about them.
