Pips will perform at Meta Bar on Tuesday, January 5, 2027, at the very beginning of the year in which they celebrate their 35th anniversary.

Back in Čakovec After More Than Two Years

After more than two years away from Čakovec, Pips will return to the Međimurje audience in early 2027. This time, they are bringing their show to the intimate setting of Meta Bar.

The concert comes at a special time for the band. PipsChips & Videoclips were formed in 1992, meaning they will celebrate their 35th anniversary in 2027.

Three and a half decades have given them one of the most distinctive bodies of work in Croatian rock. Led by Dubravko Ivaniš Ripper, Pips have always refused to rely on tried-and-tested formulas.

Their sound and approach have changed over the years. However, they have maintained a strong identity that continues to connect several generations of listeners.

From “Malena” to “Pariz”

From their debut album “Shimpoo Pimpoo” and landmark releases “Dernjava”, “Fred Astaire” and “Bog” to “Drveće i rijeke”, “Pjesme za gladijatore”, “Walt” and “Vesna”, Pips have built an impressive catalogue.

“Malena”, “Poštar lakog sna”, “Narko”, “Motorcycle Boy”, “Bog”, “Na putu prema dole”, “Gume na kotačima” and “Pariz” are just some of their long-standing live favourites.

This combination of different eras is one of the reasons their concerts continue to bring together several generations of fans.

And what better way to start the new year than hearing those songs live in the intimate surroundings of Meta Bar?

PipsChips & Videoclips at Meta Bar

The January 5 show will mark the band’s first concert in Čakovec in more than two years. It also comes just days into the year of their major 35th anniversary.

The intimate setting of Meta Bar offers something that suits Pips particularly well – a close connection between the band and the audience.

A new year, a return to Čakovec and 35 years of Pips. More than enough reasons to start 2027 with a concert.

PIPS, CHIPS & VIDEOCLIPS – Zagreb rock beyond genre boundaries

Who are Pips, Chips & Videoclips?

Pips, Chips & Videoclips were formed in 1992 in Zapruđe, Zagreb. Over more than three decades, they have built a distinctive reputation.

The band has always been difficult to fit into a single genre. Led by Dubravko Ivaniš Ripper, Pips developed their own blend of rock, alternative music and pop. Their sound has continued to evolve from one album to the next.

Their debut album “Shimpoo Pimpoo” was released in 1993. It marked the beginning of a career that would establish them as one of Croatia’s most distinctive rock bands.

“Dernjava”, “Fred Astaire” and the breakthrough years

Their second album, “Dernjava”, was released in 1995. It remains one of the key records from the band’s early years.

The album helped shape their musical identity. Several of its songs also became an important part of their live repertoire.

Two years later came “Fred Astaire”. The album delivered some of the band’s best-known songs and strengthened their position on the Croatian music scene.

Towards the end of the decade, Pips released “Bog”. It became another important entry in their discography.

By then, one thing was already clear. Pips had no intention of repeating the same formula from album to album.

Songs that have defined generations

Throughout their career, Pips, Chips & Videoclips have created a songbook that connects several generations of listeners.

“Malena”, “Poštar lakog sna”, “Narko”, “Motorcycle Boy”, “Bog”, “Na putu prema dole” and “Gume na kotačima” are among their best-known songs.

Many of them have become essential parts of the band’s concerts.

Pips have also remained a strongly author-driven band. Dubravko Ivaniš’s lyrics are often personal, urban and open to different interpretations.

His writing has become just as important to the band’s identity as the music itself.

From “Drveće i rijeke” to “Walt”

At the beginning of the new millennium, Pips continued to reshape their sound.

The album “Drveće i rijeke” opened a new chapter for the band. It was followed by “Pjesme za gladijatore”.

Another important step came with “Walt”, released in 2013. Once again, Pips showed little interest in relying on their own past.

Instead, they continued exploring new creative territory.

Their sound, line-up and approach have changed many times throughout the years. However, Ivaniš’s distinctive lyrical style has remained constant.

That strong artistic identity gives Pips a unique place on the Croatian music scene.

“Vesna” – ten years later

After a ten-year gap between studio albums, Pips, Chips & Videoclips released “Vesna” in 2023.

The album opened another chapter for the band. It brought songs such as “Pariz”, “Većinom” and “SSND”.

Pips did not try to recreate the sound of their best-known periods. Instead, they followed the direction of their current creative phase.

The band remained active after the release of “Vesna”. In 2026, they presented a new version of “Mafija”.

The original version appeared on the album “Dernjava”.

More than three decades after their story began in Zapruđe, Pips continue moving forward. They refuse to live solely off their back catalogue.

Ripper at the heart of the band

Dubravko Ivaniš Ripper has been the frontman, songwriter and key creative figure since the band’s earliest days.

His songwriting is one of the most recognisable features of Pips. Love, the city, relationships and everyday life often appear in his lyrics.

Personal dilemmas and fragments of human experience are also recurring themes. His songs rarely offer simple or unambiguous answers.

This combination of Ivaniš’s writing and the band’s need for change has been crucial to their longevity.

It has allowed Pips to maintain a strong identity for more than three decades.
