Divanhana and the Album “Radio Sevdah”

The Osijek concerts are part of Divanhana’s tour promoting their current album “Radio Sevdah,” released on October 17. The album features 14 tracks that combine reinterpretations of classic sevdalinka songs with original compositions, shaped through a modern yet deeply emotional arrangement style.

The entire album is conceived as a conceptual radio broadcast and a tribute to Radio Sarajevo — a medium that shaped the musical taste of generations and had a strong influence on the band members themselves.

Why Divanhana Are Special to the Osijek Audience

Divanhana have found a unique way to bring sevdah closer to contemporary audiences without losing its depth or authenticity. Once students, now accomplished musicians, they approach both well-known and lesser-known sevdalinka songs with great respect and care.

Particularly notable is the vocal performance of Selma Droce, powerful, emotional and highly expressive, often turning the concert into an intimate and almost meditative experience.

Conclusion

Divanhana return to Osijek with an additional concert, confirming the strong bond between the band and their audience. The sold-out Valentine’s Day performance is the best proof of that connection.

Divanhana – pop-jazz sevdah band from Sarajevo

Origins and musical identity

Divanhana was founded in 2009 by students of the Sarajevo Music Academy. From the beginning, the band stood out by performing sevdalinkas arranged with jazz, pop, and classical influences. Later, they expanded their repertoire to other traditional Balkan songs, but the foundation remained the same – a fusion of sevdah and contemporary genres.

Concert activity and tours

From the very start of their career, Divanhana has been highly active both on stage and in recording. Already in 2012, they performed at the prestigious WOMEX, the world’s leading world music festival and trade fair. This was followed by numerous concerts across Europe. In their first five years, they held more than 150 performances, and the pace only grew. The Zagreb concert is part of a major European tour promoting their latest album.

Discography and awards

So far, Divanhana has released six studio albums. The most recent, “Zavrzlama” (2022), brought them significant international recognition. That year, they won the award of the renowned British magazine Songlines for the best world music group globally, while the album reached third place on the annual World Music Charts Europe.

A unique sevdah formula

Former students are now accomplished musicians with years of experience, reimagining both well-known and lesser-known sevdalinkas in their own distinctive style. Their ability to connect tradition with modernity makes them unique. Adding a special dimension is brilliant vocalist Selma Droce, whose voice touches the heart and enriches every performance.

Divanhana today

Today, Divanhana is synonymous with contemporary sevdah. Their concerts not only spread love for traditional music but also bring it closer to new generations and international audiences. The blend of passion, skill, and emotion keeps listeners coming back – because Divanhana warms hearts and fills them with sevdah.
